About Mission

Mission is the best way to connect shoppers with stores. We make connections for forward-thinking businesses and shoppers tired of sharing their data for irrelevant ads. Let’s make shopping a personal experience again.

Why did we create Mission?

Why yet another way to shop… Well here are the top 5 reasons why we thought our current ways weren’t really that great.

  1. We believe in human-to-human relationship where technology is the enabler, not the decision maker.
  2. We believe in the infinitely superior knowledge of merchants and merchandisers over algorithms when it comes to style (duh) and understanding what you are looking for.
  3. We believe in strong commerce ecosystems where local stores, merchants and their talents have their rightful place in our neighborhoods and communities in cities across the world, for people to discover, try, smell and touch goods.
  4. You’re busy, and constantly managing lists of things to shop for or projects you’re thinking of. Whether it lives on the fridge or on your to-do app, Mission was invented to transform you from an army-of-one tasked with figuring all this out, into a massive, skilled and select contingent of retail professionals in stores across your city curating options for you. Makes sense to us anyways.
  5. We believe the privacy for value exchange equation is wrong at the moment when it comes to online shopping. We created Mission to enable you receive shopping options on your terms, engage only with the merchants you want (good riddance spam emails) and above all to protect your information & privacy.

We asked our team to express in their words why we exist, and this is what they came up with:

(We wanted to share it as well…)

At Mission, we believe online shopping isn’t all that. And it shouldn’t be! When you know exactly what you need, Amazon is great. The problems start with when you’re not sure or want inspiration or advice. Neither Google, Amazon or most online stores are good at that since they return you thousand of options…99.9% of which you really don’t care about. But someone paid big $ for their ad to be on page 1, so here it is.

Most algorithms suck. No really. People who have bought this also have bought that. Great. I don’t really care what other people have and let’s be honest, all those algorithms are biased on 2 things: 1 What websites are trying to sell, 2 Past behavior and data. They don’t help you really discover new-new like Mission merchants will - humans who’s job it is to find out the latest and greatest.

We believe in helping people discover hidden gems in their own cities, evolve their knowledge and taste for all things. And that’s done with human-to-human interactions and we want to facilitate as many of these matches as we can. #MatchMade

As Digital commerce natives, we became painfully aware with of the fate and lack of stewardship towards local stores & merchants. Regardless of the category, from fashion to jewelry, housewares and beauty, none of the big tech companies are helping be the voice of hundreds of merchandisers and businesses in our city whom sole reason of being is to find and source amazing stuff. We salute companies like Shopfiy & Etsy for helping bring to market authentic goods; we at Mission want to help do so as well.
